Are you taking the right steps in your natural skincare routine?

Matching a good natural skincare regimen with a healthy lifestyle is the best way to keep your skin strong and healthy.  Like most things in life, routine and persistence are often the answer to delivering results, and reactive decisions to skin imperfections often don’t work. Quick ‘miracle treatments’ might fix the imperfection in the short term but, unless you address the cause of the issue, it is likely to reoccur.

At Au Natural Skinfood, products are focused on thickening the skin’s natural barrier system, so we can effectively fight environmental damage and skin disorders.  By eliminating bad bacteria on the surface of the skin and by growing good bacteria, it is our belief that we can naturally strengthen our skin. Find out more on the science of Au Natural here.

I am often asked the following three questions:

Do I really have to use all my products in sequence?

You now have your four Au Natural Skinfood skincare products - Cleanser, Brightening Lotion, Day Serum and Night Crème. How you apply these products is just as important at the products themselves. Considerable research and innovation is put into our formulations to ensure that we get the best results for you. If you want your skincare to work to its full potential, you should apply it in the correct order.

Remove - Cleanser – Always wash your skin first thing in the morning and again in the evening before bed. Apply the cleanser with your hands. Our advice is to gently remove the cleanser with a warm, damp, compress towel. This, in our very busy world, follows the slow beauty movement. It creates a feeling of wellbeing, puts moisture back into our skin and helps to gently speed up desquamation (the removal of dead skin cells).

Prepare - Brightening Lotion – Apply by spraying your lotion onto a dampened cotton pad/soft flannel and gently spreading over your face, neck and décolleté. This can be repeated if there is excess make-up residue to remove. You can spray the lotion directly onto the skin if you prefer. This lotion is a pH balancer, will remove surface debris, lighten and tighten your skin and best prepare it to accept the moisturiser.

AM - Day Serum – Apply this light, easy to spread day serum, by dotting it onto your face, neck and décolleté and gently rub in. Due to the high levels of Active 16+ Manuka honey in this product, leave for 5-10 seconds to warm on the skin before gently rubbing in. You will feel that the serum is absorbed fully and that your skin feels lifted and protected.  Initially the AM Day Serum may feel different to other traditional moisturisers, however the end result from continued use will be a softer, stronger and well-nourished skin.

PM - Night Crème – Apply this deeply moisturising and hydrating night crème by dotting onto your face, neck and décolleté and gently rub in. This crème locks moisture in and all the benefits of the layered skincare products that you have just applied.  This Night Crème is designed to support skin cell regeneration as you sleep.

Should my night routine be different to my day routine?

While we may prefer those extra five minutes in bed after the alarm goes off, time can be better used on your skin.  We have discussed the importance of following at least three steps morning and night, the difference in products is because your skin is exposed to different things while you sleep versus the daytime.  Our daytime skin is exposed to an endless variety of contaminants, including dirt, makeup, airborne pollutants and bacteria. Our night-time skin is exposed to debris on our pillow, oil production and sweat. During the day the role of our skin is mainly offensive but at night it goes to work repairing itself and preparing for the next day. Hence the reason for different products at different times of the day.

Do my skincare products all need to be the same brand?

Each skincare company uses a variety of ingredients in their formulations, which are developed to work together and maintain a low PH for your skin.  It is difficult to know for sure when mixing brands if ingredients are compatible with each other.  Surprisingly “mixing it up” is pretty common, meaning we are overusing particular active ingredients found in different skincare products. This can irritate the skin, run the risk of breakouts, redness and developing a rash.  At Au Natural Skinfood, we believe in keeping skincare simple. Using our four skincare products as recommended, along with a healthy diet, will deliver results for your skin and your family.
